Dr. Mattern is a 1999 graduate of the Pennsylvania College of Optometry who completed his residency in ocular disease at the Baltimore Veterans’ Administration Medical Center.  While in training at the Baltimore VA, Dr. Mattern did specialty rotations in anterior segment, LASIK, and glaucoma at Johns Hopkins Wilmer Eye Hospital.  He also worked with University of Maryland’s Retina and Anterior Segment Specialists.  Dr. Mattern is president and owner of our clinic.

After graduating from North Miami Senior High, he attended Florida International University. He moved to Georgia and obtained his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia in 1998. My husband had cataract surgery on both eyes in 2023. I just had cataract surgery on my right eye two days ago. I can't say enough about this practice. The initial exam was very thorough. It took two hours as you have to be fitted for the exact lens. The type of lenses available are discussed with you so you can decided what is the best visual outcome. The procedure is discussed, the pre and post op instructons are discussed in great detail. Dr Baldinger is an extremely competent and experienced eye surgeon who is also highly regarded by those who work for and with him. I can't believe how good my vision is after this procedure. I also paid out of pocket for the additionl use of the laser which maps out the eye which helps with the surgery..The laser took 3 minutes and the surgery took about ten minutes. No pain before during or after the procedure.
